Cell phone etiquette

It’s been quite sometime now that the cell phone era has become popular and we find ourselves actually addicted to this gadget. But on the other hand, we still find ourselves unaware of the basic cell phone etiquettes and are unable to follow them. A cell phone can become a disturbing element for others as the user may not realize it that much. Responding to calls while driving, walking on the road and many other things have also resulted in an increase in the number of road mishaps.

The way one uses the cell phone has changed and evolved over the years. Some of the simple guidelines that one can use to avoid being rude while using their cell phones are:

• Turning off a cell phone or switching it into the silent mode should essentially be done when driving, in important meetings, movie halls or any other such situations. This is definitely considered as good manners.
• It is always advisable to excuse yourself for a few minutes for responding to a call at the table. However, only important calls should be preferably answered.
• Informing the host about an urgent call beforehand is considered as a good etiquette. One can also let the voice mail take the calls.
• In order to make calls, one should keep in mind to make a call in times of emergencies only, by excusing oneself to a less populated area.
• One should lower the voice in order to take calls in public and also should avoid personal topics when others can hear.
• It is rude to take calls or text message when already engaged in a face-to-face conversation. Avoid it!
• Taking permission from the people around to take a call is considered as good cell phone etiquette.
