Chandigarh October 6:

Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal submitted applications seeking withdrawal of two civil cases he had filed against former CM Capt Amarinder Singh and one that was against Congress president Sonia Gandhi. Deputy CM Sukhbir Singh Badal had also filed a defamation case against Amarinder under sections of the Indian Penal Code and Criminal Procedure Code in 2002.

Badal had sought damages amounting to Rs 5 crore from Amarinder for hurting the reputation of Badal family. A poll advertisement published in 2002 had allegedly conveyed the message that Badal had mortgaged the state's interests in the Satluj-Yamuna Canal to Haryana chief minister in lieu of a gift of 22 acres in Gurgaon.
