It’s only a matter of time for the Congress to expel its senior leader Amarinder Singh from the party, claimed Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal.
He claimed the Congress was no longer a threat to Akali Dal while the Aam Aadmi Party was a non-starter. Both parties were engrossed in intense infighting on the issue of leadership, he said.
Talking to the media after inaugurating the Rural Sports Festival, Sukhbir claimed the next Assembly election would be a cakewalk for the SAD-BJP alliance.
Riding on the euphoria, promising a new age politics, AAP got some votes in Punjab and formed government in Delhi, but the party was mired in ego clashes and ugly wars among its top leaders. Some were expelled from the party while others arrested for their involvement in crimes, he alleged. “As for the Congress, Amarinder is throwing tantrums to save grab PPCC chief’s post, but the Congress would soon expel him for his anti-party activities,” he alleged.
On development projects, he said all cities and villages of the state would soon have well carpeted roads and drinking water facility. He said whitefly had damaged cotton crop not only in Punjab but also in Haryana and Rajasthan. Some politicians were trying to gain political mileage from the issue, he said.
No ambitions, will work for party: Jakhar
Chandigarh: Congress Legislature Party Leader Sunil Jakhar on Tuesday ducked all questions regarding the talk of split in the Punjab Congress, as is being indicated by a certain section of the party. He also refused to comment on a query regarding former Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh foregoing all to ensure that Jakhar retains his position as the Congress Legislature Party leader. Jakhar, however, said: "If it comes to strengthening the Congress, I will never come in its way". Sources said Amarinder had earlier supported Jakhar’s elevation to the post of PPCC president.
