A reporter at our sister site, PCMag.com, just got an early look at the Computer History Museum, which just underwent an a $19 million renovation project. The museum, which is brilliantly located is the old SGI executive briefing center, houses over 100,000 pieces of computer history, like the mint condition ThinkPad 701c above. Mark Hachman spent some time touring the museum and came away with a gallery full of images from computing’s past.
While everything is interesting enough, the old storage products are my personal favorite. Check out the IBM RAMAC 350 below. That artifact is from 1956 and it held 5 million characters, in other words you could cram about 4.4MB into a 16 sq foot cabinet (the RAMAC 350 was part of the larger RAMAC 305 system).

The awesomeness doesn’t end with old computer gear either, the Computer History Museum also has old consoles, sweet keyboards (like this Maltron), robots, and more.
