The local police booked three doctors, including a woman, of JPM Hospital, a private health facility, on a charge of causing death due to negligence under Section 304-A of the IPC following the death of a 40-year-old woman during her treatment here today.
The police have booked Dr Monica, Dr Ashish and Dr Amrish Mittal following the death of Kanta Devi, a resident of Bazigar Basti at Nagla village here.
Kanta Devi, who was operated upon at the hospital a few days ago, died this afternoon after she came to the hospital for treatment. After getting the news of Kanta Devi’s death, her relatives, along with a large number of residents of the village, went to the hospital and created a ruckus.
Alleging negligence on the part of the doctors, the protesters demanded that they should be arrested. The police reached the spot and pacified the protesters.
According to Krishan Ram, Kanta Devi’s husband, his wife had stomach ache on August 8 following which she took treatment from the hospital. “Doctors told us that she had tumour in her stomach and needed to be operated upon. Later, she was operated upon at the hospital,” said Krishan Ram.
He said after the operation, her stitches had been opened repeatedly. “Today, she went to the hospital for treatment. We got a phone call from the hospital at around 2 pm, informing us that she was no more,” said a family member.
Inspector Deepinder Singh, SHO of the Zirakpur police station, said a case had been registered, but no arrests had been made so far. The victim is survived by two sons and two daughters.
