23 Brilliant Doubts - Unanswered

If all the nations in the world are in debt(am not joking. even US has got debts), where did all the money go? (weird)

The largest creditor of US government is the citizens of United States, and in many countries it might be the same case. By borrowing money from its citizens through bonds, treasury bills and treasury notes, the government can finance its spending.

So the money didn't really go anywhere - all of your friends and relatives who have US government bonds/notes or T-bills own a piece of US debt.

When dog food is new and improved tasting, who tests it? (to be give a thought)

Just from my own knowledge i think it cannot be humans as humans most dog foods taste like garbage to humans. A survey was done where dog food was mixed with human and humans instantly recognized the food because it tasted so different. I think by improved taste they probably keep the same ingredients and add new flavor and test it against the old flavor to see what dogs go for. For example keep the same ingredients as the old dog food but change the flavor and then feed both of them to different dogs and see which one most of the dogs go for. It is kinda subjective but marketers often mislead people with that.

If the “black box” flight recorder is never damaged during a plane crash, why isn’t the whole airplane made out of that stuff? (very good thinking)

They must get this question all the time at the National Transportation Safety Board. The guy I talked to didn't miss a beat with the answer: because the interstates aren't wide enough. His point, in case you're new to sarcasm, was that a plane built to black box standards would be so heavy you'd have to drive it rather than fly. Unlike the rest of the aircraft, which is mostly made of light materials such as aluminum and plastic, the cockpit voice recorder and the flight data recorder are encased in stainless steel boxes roughly 10 inches by 10 inches by 5. The steel is maybe a quarter inch thick and the boxes are so heavy in consequence that the designers don't even bother enclosing the accompanying electronics, which in a crash generally meet the same fate as the passengers. As an added precaution, the boxes are lined with a liquid-filled foam bladder encased in plastic that's supposed to protect against the intense heat of a post-crash fire.
Over the years these precautions have proven pretty effective. Investigators got useful data off one recorder that had been immersed in the ocean for seven years. But in another crash in Thailand the recorder landed in a pool of flaming fuel and basically got cooked.
One thing the NTSB learned from experience: be careful where you put these things. Recorders used to be located near the point where the wings joined the fuselage, the theory being that this was the most heavily constructed part of the plane. Problem was, being heavily constructed, the parts of the plane falling on the recorders often crushed them. Now the recorders are put in the tail section so that, assuming your typical crashing plane goes in nose first, the forward part of the airframe absorbs most of the impact.

Who copyrighted the copyright symbol? (who knows)

no one.

Copyright was not invented until after the advent of the printing press and with wider public literacy. As a legal concept, its origins in Britain were from a reaction to printers' monopolies at the beginning of the eighteenth century. Charles II of England was concerned by the unregulated copying of books and used the royal prerogative to pass the Licensing Act of 1662, which established a register of licensed books and required a copy to be deposited with the Stationers Company, essentially continuing the licensing of material that had long been in effect. The Statute of Anne was the first real copyright act, and gave the author rights for a fixed period, after which the copyright expired. Copyright has grown from a legal concept regulating copying rights in the publishing of books and maps to one with a significant effect on nearly every modern industry, covering such items as sound recordings, films, photographs, software, and architectural works.

even if it is copyrighted, the symbol copyright should have expired by now. and so it is in the public domain which means the symbol is free to use.

Why do people say, “you’ve been working like a dog” when dogs just sit around all day? (i think they meant something else)

Because I am guessing dogs are loyal human pets and often follow humans commands. It means the person is really focused on his job just like a dog..lol

Why are the numbers on a calculator and a phone reversed? (God knows)

Years ago many people used a 10-key calculator by touch, just the way you can use a typewriter by the 'touch system'. I'd guess people still do this, but 10-key adding machines are not nearly as common now as they were then.

When the phone company came out with their push-button dial, they didn't want these people keying too quickly, so they made the dial upside down so people would have to look at it and find the numbers. It was still much faster than a rotary dial so people didn't mind.

According to Vintage Calculators Web Museum
"Bell Labs, (inventor of touch-pad dialing) thought that the accountants of the world, having earlier mastered the calculator keypad, would cause errors in the slow electro-mechanical telephone number switching stations (exchanges), due to their speed on a calculator-style keyboard. The switching equipment was designed to operate in a rotary dial environment (some central office equipment is still backward compatible to accommodate those who still have rotary phones). With modern electronic switching "dialing" speed is no problem.

They wanted typical new users of touch-pad phones, used to rotary dialling, to report that it saved time so the customer would eagerly pay extra for the feature, and for these the order of the numbers did not matter."

Why do birds not fall out of trees when they sleep? (tonight i will stay and watch)

Part of their brain remains conscious enough to maintain balance. It's a balancing reflex that's hard-wired into their systems. Many animals actually sleep standing up... horses, elephants, giraffes etc etc. Even primates can sleep in the branches of trees without falling.

Humans have the same sort of balancing reflex... it's just that we're not so good at it - take for example when you turn over in bed... most times you instinctively know when you're too near the edge of the bed and manage to avoid falling out without waking up. Just occasionally it doesn't work as advertised and we end up on the floor but that's usually as children (or drunk adults!).

What came first, the fruit or the color orange?

Both spring from the same Sanskrit root word and became part of the English language at about the same time, but it's generally accepted that the fruit came first.
If corn oil is made from corn, and vegetable oil is made from vegetables, then what is baby oil made from? (No comments)

If a person suffered from amnesia and then was cured would they remember that they forgot? (can somebody help )

Yes. Or he wouldn't be "cured" if he didn't remember everything, now would he?;)

Can you blow a balloon up under water? (yes u can)

Yes, you can, but it's dependant on a few things. First, you must have enough air in your lungs to blow it up. Second, there DOES come a point where the pressure from the outside water is greater than the rubber can bear, and it explodes. That's bad for you, because the air might be shover back in your lung along with water quite violently. It'd also be very hard to blow up the balloon.

Why is it called a “building” when it is already built? (strange isnt it)

Basic English grammar. Noun V Verb.

While it is being constructed "building" is a verb that is applied to the people who are constructing the item in the sentence. For example "The laborers are BUILDING a condo-complex" The verb is not being applied to the item itself.

However, "building" can also be used as a noun to describe the object. This is entierly seperate from the use as a verb. For example "The BUILDING will Miami's newest condo-complex".

If you were traveling at the speed of sound and you turned on your radio would you be ! able to hear it? (got to think scientifically)

If the radio is in the same "thing" you are in (e.g car) then you would be able to hear it. This is because everything inside the car is not moving relative to you, so the sound waves from the radio can still reach you.

However, if the radio is fixed, and you're moving away from it (with the radio staying where it is) at the speed of sound, then the sound waves would not be able to reach you, therefore you would not be able to hear it.

In short

That depends, is the radio traveling with you at the speed of sound? Then yes.

If you were moving away from the radio at the speed of sound, then no.

If you’re traveling at the speed of light and you turn your headlights on, what happens? (i dont have a change to try)

Sadly this question and all others about experiences at the speed of light do not have a definitive answer. You cannot go at the speed of light so the question is hypothetical. Hypothetical questions do not have definitive answers. Only massless particles such as photons can go at the speed of light. As a massive object approaches the speed of light the amount of energy needed to accelerate it further increases so that an infinite amount would be needed to reach the speed of light.

Why is it called a TV set when theres only one? (very nice)

Prior to 1935 (yes, there was TV prior to 1935), televisions were
mechanical devices that were not entirely electronic. The device was made up of a "set" of specific items, namely a small motor, a spinning disk and a neon light. Without any of these, (ie, the set was incomplete) the device would not work. The term "mechanical television" eventually gave way to the term "television set" to describe all types of TV's, though other less popular and shorter lived names such as "Televisor" and "Shadowgraph" were used briefly to refer to certain models.

If a person owns a piece of land do they own it all the way down to the core of the earth? (this is nice)

By pure definition, yes, you own the surface, everything permentanly attached, and all the way down and essentially up too. And have rights to all the minerals, etc.

In reality, many of those rights have already been taken one way or another. Mineral and subsurface rights have been taken (or at least substantially restricted), by Governments (Federal, State, local), or previously sold. Air rights sometimes are more complex - but essentially land use restrictions on how high you can build or what you can do, along with a common holding that you really own only that portion you can control and doesn't interfere with others, public right of ways, effectively restrains you from say not allowing planes to travel over.

Wh! y do most cars have speedometers that go up to at least 130 when you legally can’t go that fast on any road?

1) Marketing. A car that has a speedometer that goes only to 75 would be considered weak or anemic, even though that notion really doesn't make any sense. Perception is everything.

2) There are places where you can drive a car, legally, faster than the fastest speed limit on public roads. A race track is one example, but any sort of privately owned road would be another.

Hello,
well the answer to those questions are not unanswerd. If you really pay attention then, everything has answer. I can help little bit to explain.
