State incurred huge expenses to fight militancy

Punjab Finance Minister Manpreet Singh Badal said that the Centre is giving step-motherly treatment to Punjab, making it difficult for the State Government to meet the financial needs.

Manpreet while talking to the mediapersons said that the State had incurred huge expenses to fight militancy in the State. He said: "Several measures have been taken to put economy of the State back on track and with the rationalisation of VAT policy there was increase in revenue to the tune of 30 per cent while earning from the stamp duty has increased to 55 per cent."

Badal said while the State was reeling under debt to the tune of `70,000 crore and liable to pay `8,200 crore for servicing the debt to banks annually. The Centre has not provided any assistance in the matter. "Punjab had incurred huge expenses to fight militancy in the state, the Centre is yet to waiver the State loans to the tune of `10,000," he added.

Later addressing a panchayat function at village Gohat Pokhar, Manpreet said that people should not forget their martyrs, who laid down their lives for the country. He also gave `5 lakh to the panchayat for the development of the village.
