There are no signs of revival of militancy in Punjab, despite attempts from across the border, Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal said on Thursday.

"Though there are attempts from across the border, there is no upsurge of militancy. Punjab is a very peaceful state and people of Punjab are very secular. There is communal harmony," he told reporters after a meeting with Home Minister P Chidambaram here.

Badal said some organisations were indulging in activities to revive militancy. "But it has no significance," he said.

Union Minister of State for Home Ajay Maken had said in Lok Sabha recently that Sikh militant groups especially those based abroad were trying to revive militancy in Punjab and a close watch is being maintained on their activities.

"Available reports suggest that Sikh militant groups especially those based abroad continue to persist with their efforts to revive militancy in Punjab," he had said last month.

Asked whether there was any presence of Maoists in Punjab, Badal said "there is no Naxal presence in Punjab" but the state needed to be alert in the wake of the violence in other parts of the country.

"Some people sometime go there (in Punjab) when there is pressure in other areas. We should be cautious, we have to be alert".
