CONTROVERSIAL TEHSILDAR SHARMA SUSPENDED

Amritsar June 16:
The state government today suspended controversial tehsildar Rajesh Sharma following serious allegations by an NRI family against him. Two months ago too, Sharma was suspended when he had signed the fake power attorney for the official residence of Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, 3, Race Course Road.
Sharma had been posted in Amritsar for the last many years and enjoyed a good political clout that helped him get reinstated and posted at the same position from which he was removed following a TV channel expose. The orders from the Revenue and Rehabilitation Department today read that he ahs been put under immediate suspension and the orders also asked DC KS Pannu to submit his chargesheet within a week.
Kin of an NRI settled in the US had yesterday alleged that their land was fraudulently sold by two persons in connivance with Sharma. They said that the aggrieved party had approached Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, following which a probe was conducted by the Deputy Commissioner, in which strong action was recommended against Sharma.
Addressing mediapersons here today, N L Sharda, who spoke on behalf of Yashdev Inder Singh, Jagdev Inder Singh and Jaidev Inder Singh, all NRIs, alleged that not only had GS Khara of Green Avenue and Sudesh Khanna of Panchkula, whom the brothers had handed over general power of attorney and some blank signed papers to follow-up the cases, committed fraud, but had also sold 10.76 acres land worth over Rs 300 crore for peanuts.
However, when contacted, tehsildar Rajesh Sharma said allegations against him were baseless. “There is no truth in these allegations, which are intended to defame me,” said Sharma. He added that he would contest his suspension. Khara and Khanna too termed the charges against them as “groundless”. “These are mere claims intended to malign us,” said Khara.
