The Galaxy S4 may use front camera to automatically pause videos, scroll pages
We found out yesterday that the Samsung Galaxy S4 had an automatitc scrolling feature, which enables the phone to scroll menus and pages based on feedback from the front-facing camera. Turns out, the phone has some more cool camera-related software tweaks, as SamMobile has published some leaked screenshots of two features called Smart Scroll and Smart Pause.
Smart Scroll, as we have seen earlier, uses the front-facing camera to detect the user’s eye movements and automatically scrolls pages when the user reaches the bottom of a page. The feature works at least on the native browser, Chrome for Android, and the email and Gmail apps. However, it looks like more apps could be using this feature as the list in the screenshots has a few more entries not visible in the screenshots.
Users can also adjust the scrolling speed and can make it such that vertical head movement can increase the default speed.

Another feature that has been mentioned but not detailed in the past is Smart Pause. We first heard about Smart Pause when the company filed for a trademark on the term "Eye Pause." The Smart Pause feature pauses the video when a user takes their eyes off the screen.
The Smart Stay and Smart Rotation tweaks, first seen on the Galaxy S3, also harness the front-facing camera to make the user experience less annoying, and have been retained in the S4. All in all, we are glad that Samsung is putting the front-facing camera, rumoured to be a 2.1-megapixel unit on the Galaxy S4, to better use than just for video chats and self shots.
The Galaxy S4 will be unveiled by Samsung on March 14 at an event in New York. The flagship is said to follow the competition and sport a 1080p display. The screenshots leaked today are 1080 x 1920 pixels in size, which pretty much gives away the resolution of the display.
However, most fans are looking forward to find out which CPU the S4 equips. Leaked Antutu benchmarks from last week suggest that the Galaxy S4 will have an eight-core Exynos 5 Octa processor in a 4+4 core configuration.
The camera on the back of the S4 is expected to be a 13-megapixel affair, and there have been rumours that the Korean electronics giant will be introducing a new way of shooting panoramas, not unlike the PhotoSphere feature introduced with the Nexus 4. The Galaxy S4 is expected to launch with Android 4.2 Jelly Bean.
