Motorola made a huge splash when it introduced the Atrix 4G smartphone and its companion laptop. Much of the excitement was diminished when people found out that the laptop would cost $450 and that the companion experience wasn’t quite ideal (at least not what you’d want considering the price), but the fact that they rolled out the technology remains exciting.
What the Atrix 4G did pack that had the most potential (even if it too had shortcomings) was Webtop, the built-in application that lets you dock your phone and use it to get to the web via a full Firefox browser (with the phone’s docking options). Apparently that app won’t be unique to the Atrix 4G, it will be landing on all Motorola’s “high-performance” Android-powered smartphones before long. In fact, expect to see it happen by June.
We’ll see if Webtop comes preloaded on the upcoming Droid Bionic, as that is one of the notable releases on the way from Motorola, though it doesn’t seem like it will work out because of time constraints.
