NEW DELHI: Paytm has announced that it would now let 'non-internet' users or those who use feature phones, transact using the service. The company, which has been one of the biggest beneficiaries ever since the announcement of demonetisation by the Indian government, will now let users transfer money using phone calls.
The feature phone users would can now call on toll free number 1800 1800 1234 and pay any Paytm customer without an active internet connection. For this, the Paytm customers and merchants would need to set their 4 Digit Paytm PIN on call. They can then enter the mobile number of the recipient, the amount and the PIN to transfer the money.
The company has made it clear that users would need to have a Paytm account in order to use this feature. Also, the call made on the above-mentioned toll free number should be from the same mobile number that is registered with the Paytm account.

For now it is not possible to create a Paytm account on call. Users would need to log in to Paytm.com website or on Android or iOS app to create an account. Similarly, to add money in the wallet, users would need to log in to the website or the app. It is also possible to find the nearest cash-in point using Paytm nearby in order to top-up the account.
Paytm, in November, rolled out a feature allowing users and merchants to send money from their Paytm wallets to any bank account at 1% transaction fee. However, later in the month the company said it won't charge any transaction fee on bank transfers at all. Paytm's latest move is said to come after MobiKwik announced it'll allow fund transfers to bank accounts at 0% transaction fee.
Earlier, customers and merchants with completed KYCs could send money to banks through Paytm at 1% fee without any waiting period. However those without KYCs had to pay a 4% transaction fee, followed by a wait time of 45 days post creation of a Paytm account, in order to transfer money to banks
