At the E3 2019 Microsoft has announced details about its upcoming high-end Xbox console codenamed ‘Project Scarlett’. It will be powered by a custom-designed processor, leveraging the latest Zen 2 and Radeon RDNA architecture from AMD, pack high bandwidth GDDR6 memory, and a next generation solid state drive (SSD).

It will feature hardware accelerated raytracing, variable refresh rate, 8K gaming support and ultra-low latency input.

Regarding the console, Microsoft said:

With Project Scarlett, we continue our commitment to compatibility by ensuring your gaming accessories and Xbox career will also move forward with you, along with thousands of games across four console generations which will look and play best on Project Scarlett.
The console will be arriving Holiday 2020 alongside Halo Infinite which will be powered by the studio’s next-generation Slipspace Engine. This will compete with the Sony PlayStation 5 that is rumored to come with 3rd Gen Ryzen CPU, 8K graphics support and Ray Tracing in 2020.
