WhatsApp users on the Web version are encountering a strange bug as they are able to see their contacts last seen even if their privacy is set to nobody. This issue seems to exist with the WhatsApp Web version at the moment as we have encountered the same. However, WhatsApp watcher, WABetaInfo posted on Twitter that WhatsApp for Android also has the same issue, but we did not encounter the problem personally. For the unaware, when you change your privacy settings to ‘Nobody’ under the Privacy menu, you will not be able to see the ‘Last Seen’ of your contacts and vice versa.

But this bug displays the last seen of your contacts even the privacy set to nobody. We personally verified that you would only be able to see the last seen status of your contact, but the opposite person will not be able to see your last seen status.

Having said that, several WhatsApp Web users are encountering the same issue as users are replying to the tweet posted by WABetaInfo. As of now, it’s unknown when WhatsApp will be rolling out a fix, but the issue is said to present since July 15, 2018.

This is the second major bug faced by WhatsApp users in recent times. Just a couple of weeks ago, all the WhatsApp Beta users on Android experienced a daily backup bug, which used to back up the entire WhatsApp media folder. As a result, the backup size used to be in GBs. The irony here is even if the user set the backup files as just photos and messages, the application used to back up the entire WhatsApp media folder including videos, photos and so on. However, WhatsApp fixed the issue in a couple of days with a new Beta update.

The Facebook-owned company is yet to fix the Last Seen bug on WhatsApp Web; Maybe a server-side update could fix the issue on the platform.
