What your sleeping position says about you

Starfish

These five per cent of snoozers tend to lie on their backs, legs sprawled and arms stretched above the head. They place a huge emphasis on friendship, are very empathetic and listen to the problems of others. They dislike being the centre of attention and will always lend a hand to someone in need. Starfish sleepers are sensible enough not to be taken for granted.

Freefaller

It might sound like these seven per cent of sleepers topple out of the bed and regularly land on the floor, but this is not the case. Freefallers sleep on their stomachs, with their arms curled towards the pillow and heads turned sideways. These snoozers are said to be highly sociable, gregarious and often brash. They are inwardly nervous and actually very sensitive to other people's judgment and criticism.

Foetal Position

It appears that most of us like to curl up in a ball to snooze. The survey found 51 per cent of women favoured this position. Findings indicated that these "thinker" personalities are shy, forgiving and sensitive by nature but can exhibit a harder exterior to the outside world. In total, 41 per cent of those surveyed chose this position and, interestingly, more than twice the number of women to men admitted to adopting it.

Log

If you lie in bed on your side, with both arms by your sides, you're a log and one of 15 per cent of people who decide to sleep in this manner. The poll indicated that these people are easy-going and sociable. They tend to be open and trusting to meeting strangers but might be gullible at times. These sleepers tend to be very popular and part of the in-crowd.

Soldier

This stance entails lying on your back, with both arms pinned straight to both sides. Eight per cent admitted to adopting this position. Not surprisingly, these people tend to be quite disciplined and are very ambitious, and have very high expectations throughout life. They might appear to be quiet, shy and reserved to many and will ultimately set high standards for those around them, too.

Yearner

These are the people who sleep on their side, with both arms stretched outwards in front of them. Thirteen per cent of people surveyed chose this as their favoured sleep position and identified themselves as having open personalities, but were sometimes prone to suspicion and cynicism. Yearners are also described as slow decision-makers but, once the choice is made, they stick to it.
