What can be done to relieve constipation in pregnancy?

A good percentage of pregnant women seem to have problems with constipation. This can be due to changes in hormones that slow the movement of food through the digestive tract or iron supplements may also cause constipation. During the last trimester of pregnancy, there is a pressure on rectum from the growing uterus. However some suggestions that may help include-
Drink plenty of liquids, at least 6-8 glasses of water each day, including whole fruits rich in water and fibre. Eat food high in fiber, such as raw fruits and vegetables and bran cereals.
Exercise daily - walking is a good form of exercise.
Try yoga to relieve stress and listen to music or read to relax your body and nerves.
