Vehlli baithi c te dimaag bohat paasey ghum reha c..te finally, ik sawal te ja ke rukk geya...te socheya iss vaarey ch tuhadi saareya di raaye v lai jaave.

Mera sawaal eh ah ki, saade lokki ainne westernized kion hoi jaande ne? nai nai, pehrawe di gall ni kardi, main gall kar rahi aan future generation de naawan(names) di. Ajj kall de kai parents, apne bacheyan de naam ah "harry perry" jehe kion rakhde ne? Saade ithey sikh families ne jehrre apne bacheyaan nu goreyaan de naam le ke ballaunde ne...kehnde ne ke hun jadh amrika vich rehna hai taan "it's easier for teachers here, (da white folks) to knw em by the american names than our very hard panjabi names" and dat "kids wud tease em bec of such long names" lakh lahnat ah eho jehi soch te... Excuse my language, but dats a shitty reason...
Id rather b made fun off because of my long punjabi sikh name dat has a true meaning to it jehdaa mainu pata, and hav hope dat, one day these ppl wud also realize and knw how ignorant they r, than adaptin to some plain old american name, bec of some stupid reason like "oh i named my kid H for harry, leavin out all da beautiful names like Harvinder/harsahib/harkirat/ harman and so on, bec it wud b easier for his teachers to pronounce wen he goes to skool"????? BS!!

It jst irritates me...who da heck cares ke goreyaan nu naam lainna au ke nai? These parents are not at all helpin their kids, to stick to their desi roots...jadh vadde ho ke niyaane apniyan mann marjiyaan karde ne taan keh dinde ke "pata ni meri parvarish 'ch ki kamee reh gai c...?" well, duh?

So doorh di ehi sochdi c ke i wud never let nebody name my kids no harry perry...Je tusi kaho ke "leh, naam rakh ke ki apne roots naal jorrh lainna kisey nu" taan u're wrong buddy, lil things do matter. Ah! dat takes me on to my next question..par fer sahi..pehllan iss topic te apne vichaar sanjhe kareyo ji...

Sahi gall ah ji...hor boli sikhan vich koi rok tok ni ah kisey nu v, par pehllan apni maa boli aunni chahidi hai...hor bhaashawan bhavien 20+ aundiyan hon par j ik apni maa boli nai aundi taan oh saariyaan zero barabar ne...saade lokki apne sabhyachaar nu apne virse nu apni panjabiyat nu app mitti 'ch roll rahe ne...pata ni ki hona duniya da..

There are punjabi names that are easy to pronounce. Over the years, I have heard various versions of my name.. I don't take offence when someone mispronounces my name. Many kids choose to give themselves a nick name to make things easy.. and now some parents are just making it easy for the kids! I think we have no right to judge what someones name should be. It's thier kids and they know the best! They might think you are making it harder for your kids to mix in by giving them 'long' names.

Main apni job te apna poora naam likhdi aan apne name tag te, jaddon lokki mainu mere naam vaare pushde it allows 'em to peek into da history behind my name... jst bec of my name, they get to explore and learn bout my religion sikhism. Sikh kon ne te Sikhi ki ae, main kehrre des toh aan, Panjab ki ah te Panjabi kon ne...its all bout RePrEsEnTiNg!

You know, personally I don't like when too many desi's are together.. because they start interfering.. I prefer to keep my distance. I don't need to have more people to offer explanations to.. I guess others are like that too. They reserve the right to do what they want.

So many people back home have even shorter versions of their name: Adi, Sid, Po, Harry, Rocky, Ro.. what do you have to say about them?

Apni apni soch samjh aa. Usually Germans te Russians de kinne bade bade naa hunde aa. They keep the same. Chinese loki boat to uttarde saar hi naam, religion sab change kar lainde aa.

ts all about the mentality and culture you are coming. Greeks, German, Russians they are very strongly attached to themselves. They do not change their names or not even accent. Indians ta India ch reh ke american accent ch hi dhua shad de aa .

Some opt out to stand with their beliefs, culture everything, some feels comfortable other way.
Jidda jisnu changa lagda karo, just do not hurt other's feeling and try not to impose your right or wrong deeds on others.

P.S-> Whites ne kade v mera naa galat pernounce nahi kita. Yeah Black and chinese hesitate to pernounce my first name.

Sahi keha 22ji, its the cultural thing... Waise if im not wrong, South Indians v apna naa change nai karde.. They prefer to keep long names wherever they go..

Yes i represent cuz i want to...ehi sawal main kar rahi aan ke y r ppl tryin to hide their roots? their heritage? Original kion ni ah lokki? apna aap kion nai dikhaunde o? goreyaan de naam rakh ke rees hee taan kar rahe ne...for wat? but again ppl might say "what is there in a name?" hehe...there's a lot there to understand...
