Western Digital has today introduced the WD TV Live Plus HD media player, allowing 1080p media playback and simple Netflix viewing to your TV. It comes as a follow-up to the company’s previous WD TV devices.
The included Netflix interface allows Netflix members to browse and add movies to their instant Queue using nothing more than the Live Plus HD and its included remote. There’s also functionality to allow content to be streamed from YouTube, Flickr, Pandora, Live365, and MediaFly.
File format support has continued being a focus for WD. This makes adding your own content possible without having to worry too much about if your files will be supported. Formats include:

  • Video – AVI (Xvid, AVC, MPEG1/2/4), MPG/MPEG, VOB, MKV (h.264, x.264, AVC, MPEG1/2/4, VC-1), TS/TP/M2T (MPEG1/2/4, AVC, VC-1), MP4/MOV (MPEG4, h.264), M2TS, WMV9
  • Photo – JPEG, GIF, TIF/TIFF, BMP, PNG
  • Audio – MP3, WAV/PCM/LPCM, WMA, AAC, FLAC, MKA, AIF/AIFF, OGG, Dolby Digital, DTS
  • Playlist – PLS, M3U, WPL
  • Subtitle – SRT, ASS, SSA, SUB, SMI
Media can be streamed directly from your PC or from up to two USB 2.0 devices at the same time. Content is collected by the media library feature and presented to watch without the need to switch between storage devices manually. Unfortunately you won’t be watching or listening to content from iTunes, Cinema Now, Movielink, Amazon Unbox, or Vongo, however.
It’s also possible to control media playback from a Windows 7 PC, view and navigate DVD menus, and access content directly from digital cameras. Connectivity includes HDMI 1.3, 2x USB 2.0, Ethernet, Composite A/V and Component video.
The WD TV Live Plus is available now and you can expect to pay around $149.99.
