WARRANT AGAINST TIKAIT IF HE DOESN'T RESPOND TO SUMMON: BUTA

Jalandhar May 12:
National Commission for Scheduled Castes will issue a warrant against Mahendra Singh Tikait if he does not reply within 15 days to the commission's notice for his alleged casteist remarks against UP Chief Minister Mayawati, its chairman Buta Singh said today.
"Earlier we issued notice to Tikait but he did not turn up. Three days back summon was sent to him again and if he does not reply within 15 days, commission will issue warrant against him", Buta Singh told reporters here.
Commission is authorized to issue warrant against anybody after adopting the prescribed norms and it would be the duty of Uttar Pradesh Government to execute the warrant issued by the Commission against Tikait, he said.
"The Commission has decided to summon Tikait for his alleged castiest remarks against UP Chief Minister and if found guilty, appropriate punishment will be recommended against him to the Constitutional authority President of India", he added.
Commenting on the allegation levelled by Mayawati that Commission did not fulfil its constitutional responsibility by not intervening in the episode, Singh refuted the charges saying he condemned Tikait for his act in both electronic and print media as soon as the episode occurred.
