The UT Vigilance Department, which is conducting a probe into violations in paid parking lots across the city, has now written to the MC seeking details of officials, including former ones, who extended the contract of various parking contractors despite violations.
Sources said the Vigilance Department had sought details of all officials, including inspectors, superintendent and additional commissioners, who were part of extending the contract of various parking lots despite violations.
Recently, the Vigilance Department had completed its probe into overcharging and other violations by the paid parking lot contractor of Elante Mall and had recommended departmental action against four MC officials.
After the Vigilance report, the UT Administration had decided to impose a major penalty on three MC officials and the case of senior officials was sent to the Central Vigilance Commission.
After the Elante Mall probe, UT Adviser Vijay Kumar Dev had directed the Vigilance Department to complete its probe into other parking lots as well.
Vigilance report had blamed MC officials
The Vigilance report had blamed MC officials as despite a number of challans issued against the Elante Mall parking contractor, the MC officials had given a satisfactory report in favour of the contractor. Besides, the report had also stated that there was “ineffective inspection” of violations such as non-functional CCTV cameras and non-functional e-ticketing machines, which were required to be installed according to the terms and conditions of the contract. The Vigilance inquiry report stated that though the contractor had been challaned for violation of the terms and conditions of the contract, there were no clear-cut guidelines for awarding/renewing a contract. The MC Additional Commissioner used her discretion in renewing the contract.

The MC is now formulating new terms and conditions for the paid parking system in the city. A special committee has also been formed in this regard.
