Toshiba announced it would voluntarily recall about 41,000 notebooks after discovering a defect that might expose owners to a potential burn hazard. The recalled machines prone to overheating include the Satellite T135, Satellite T135D, and Satellite ProT130 notebooks sold from August 2009 through August 2010.
In a note issued by the US Consumer Product Safety Commission, Toshiba has logged so far 129 cases of overheating where the plastic around the AC plug would deform. Two minor burn cases were reported as well, but no serious injuries.
Toshiba is asking customers to download a BIOS upgrade that will check your Toshiba notebook. If the software determines your machine is one of the 41,000 affected notebooks, it’ll disable the external power adapter and prompt you to call the company for a free repair.
