Tiger skull, bones seized from Guwahati airport

With the customs officials seizing a tiger skull, bones weighing over 10 kilograms and over 160 pangolin shells from Speedpost consignments bound for Imphal from the international airport here, the focus is back on the thriving racket of wildlife items in the NorthEast.The seizures were made in the last four days and the cost of the animal parts is estimated to be around Rs 2 crore in the international grey market.

The customs officials first intercepted a packet on Wednesday during the X-ray scan that clearly showed bones inside. Six more packets were intercepted on Thursday. Five more packets were detected on Friday, while six were detected on Saturday.

All the packets were booked by Speedpost at Dimapur in Nagaland and had arrived by surface transport at the LGBI Airport here to be transshipped by air to Imphal.
