Hyderabad: Following the resignation of Telangana legislators, the people in Rayalseema and coastal Andhra regions are getting restive amid indications of counter agitation against the proposed division of the state.

Andhra University in Visakhapatnam emerged as the main centre of the ‘United Andhra Pradesh movement', with tight security on campus and the deployment of additional police and paramilitary forces in the port city, especially around the AU campus.

In Hyderabad, Andhra-Rayalseema political leaders kept a close watch on the situation and carefully evaluated their options.

Tough stand

The public has piled pressure on the Andhra-Rayalseema political leadership to take a tough stand and announce their resignations — just like their Telangana counterparts did — as part of measures to stall any government plans to split the state.
