With drug menace increasing in the winter capital, the Team Jammu will organise a rally against drug abuse in the city on November 28.
The Team Jammu is an organisation of young professionals, social activists, sportspersons, doctors, journalists, lawyers, educationists and intellectuals, which has taken the initiative to get the Jammu rid of the menace.
To create awareness among youth against drug abuse, the Team Jammu is going to hold a massive anti-drug rally on November 28 in which youth from all corners of Jammu will participate to contribute in the social cause.
“It is the beginning of our campaign against drug abuse in Jammu. Our priority is to involve as many youth in the proposed rally to give a message to the society that youth of Jammu are ready to shoulder the responsibility of making this city free of drug abuse,” said Zorawar Singh Jamwal, chairman of the Team Jammu.
“It is a small initiative to make youth aware of drug abuse and its effects on life,” Zorawar Singh, who is also secretary general of the Press Club of Jammu, said and exuded confidence that the small initiative would soon take a shape of a big mass movement in the Jammu region.
“A full-fledged survey was conducted by the Team Jammu in the past 8 to 10 months and it came to the fore that despite being highly educated and qualified, youth of Jammu are falling prey to drug addiction as there are hardly any job avenues and employment schemes generated by the government,’’ Zorawar Singh revealed.
“The survey has revealed the shocking facts that drugs like brown sugar, heroin, intoxicant capsules and much more are being pumped into the winter capital by the drug mafia, which remains unchecked and being supplied to the youth,” Zorawar Singh said.
Revealing a disturbing trend in Jammu, Jamwal said not only boys, but also girls were falling prey to the menace. “The unfortunate part is that neither the government, nor any political party raised voice against this ‘death trap’, which is slowly engulfing the youth and damaging the young minds, who can be utilised in the development and progress of the country and the state as well,” he said.
He appealed to all Jammu residents to join the rally on November 28 at 10 am outside Royal Estate Banquet, near Toph Sherkhanian Bridge on the Akhnoor Road and give a strong message to the drug mafia as well as those agencies which are duty bound to take tough action against them.
