New Delhi: The Delhi High Court yesterday granted bail to suspended Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer Ravi Inder Singh, accused of passing official information from the home ministry to unauthorised people.

Justice Mukta Gupta granted bail after seeing a status report of Delhi Police which stated he was not the main accused.

The court granted bail to Ravi Inder Singh, who was arrested on November 23 last year. A charge sheet was filed on January 23.

Police said instead of government accommodation, the home ministry official had chosen to stay in a private guest house with a monthly rent of Rs50,000 (Dh4,127) being paid by a middleman working on behalf of a telecom company.

Information wanted

In return Singh, the then director of internal security in the home ministry, was asked for information about security clearance of a file relating to British firm Telcordia Technologies, police said.

The court took note of the fact that the co-accused and alleged middleman Vineet Kumar, of Kolkata-based Temptation Food, was already on bail.

The 2,343-page charge sheet sought prosecution under various provisions of the Indian Penal Code and the Prevention of Corruption Act (PCA) dealing with criminal conspiracy, destruction of evidence and bribing a government official.
