Parents of a two-month-old baby girl claimed that their child on Saturday died within 48 hours of being administered polio vaccine by local civic authorities in Surat.

The Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) officials, however, refuted the allegations made by the parents of the baby girl.

Two-months-old Khusbhu of Sriram society at Amroli developed high fever and infection within 24 hours of the polio drops administration, following which she was rushed to a private clinic and later to new civil hospital, where she died after brief treatment.

"After giving drops, health workers gave us tablets and asked us to give it to Khusbhu if she catches fever. We gave her the specified dose, but her condition worsened on Friday morning. We don't know what happened to her suddenly.

The only medicine we gave was the tablet given to us by the http://www.ndtv.com/news/cities/surat-parents-claim-polio-drops-killed-infant-22536.php#health worker," the girl's father Shailesh Limbachia said.

Limbachia alleged that seven more children in their society fell ill after consuming the vaccine.

He alleged the health worker was using outdated vaccines.

Deputy Municipal Commissioner (Health and Hospitals) Hemant Desai of SMC denied that vaccines were outdated.
