COLOMBO, SRI LANKA — An elephant named Stumpy will be the mascot for the 2011 cricket World Cup.

The elephant’s name was unveiled Monday — 200 days before the first ball is bowled — following an online contest.

The winner receives a bat signed by cricket stars Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Sachin Tendulkar of India and Sri Lanka’s Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardena.

The World Cup opens Feb. 19 in Bangladesh. India and Sri Lanka are also hosts.
