Abu Dhabi: Sartejano, Poulain Kossack and Nayef Al Khalidiah, all winners of the Shaikh Mansour Festival's Shaikh Zayed Cup races in Europe this year line-up against a strong set of Qatari raiders in today's Qatar Arabian World Cup to be held at the Longchamp Racecourse in Paris as part of the Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe weekend.
The Qatar Arabian World Cup is a Group I race for Arabian horses and carries a massive ¤500,000 (Dh2,480,030) prize fund and will be run over a distance of 2,000 metres along with the Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe today.
Last year's winner General will not be running but three other strong favourites from Qatar — Al Tair, Raqiyah and Jaafer — make today's 10-furlong contest a high-intensity battle.
While Nayef Al Khalidiah, the Saudi Arabia representative won this year's Toulouse race of the Shaikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan's Global Arabian Flat Racing Festival, Poulain Kossack won the Dutch race and Sartejano won both in Berlin and Warsaw to pocket an additional bonus prize fund of ¤30,000 as Europe's best.IFAHR Chairman and Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club General Manager Sami Jasem Al Boenain hoped the Qatari horse would once again come on top. "The race will be exciting and it is a quality field. Last two editions we saw Al Dahma and General doing exceptionally well and this time we also have Jaafer which is a good sign for Qatar."
Following are the odds for the Qatar Arabian World Cup runners; 5/1 Al Tair, 6/1 Raqiyah, 7/1 Areej, 15/2 Nayef Al Khalidiah, 8/1 Theoretically, 10/1 Asraa Min Albarq, Sartejano, Poulain Kossack, 12/1 Jaafer Asf, 14/1 Raihan, 16/1 Hilal Al Zaman, 20/1 Kasih, 25/1 Aziz Asf, Mu'azzaz, Dubai Heros, 33/1 Makbe.
