The state government today sent a reply to 23 queries raised by the Union Human Resource Development (HRD) Ministry on February 2 regarding the proposed site for Central University at Jadrangal near Chamunda.
Himachal has requested the ministry to sent a team for inspection of the site.
The queries had been raised immediately after the visit of Smriti Irani to the state earlier this week.
Sources said PC Dhiman, Additional Chief Secretary (Education), sent the details to the ministry after seeking the information from the Deputy Commissioner, Kangra. It is reliably learnt that the queries pertain to the exact location of the site, the total area, rainfall, whether it is flood and earthquake-prone and is in one chunk.
The ministry has sought the status of the land if it is forest, government or private land.
“The ministry has been informed that the total area is 2,200 kanal in one chunk and the area is government land which requires nod from the Union Ministry of Forest and Environment. It will take three months,” said sources.
The queries from the ministry also include whether the site is green area and if it will lead to displacement of people, which have been answered in the negative. Information has been sought about the nearest metro city, rail, air and national highway link and the main water source supply and ground level.
The queries have been raised by the ministry following a request by the Himachal Government that a Central team might inspect and approve the site for the setting up of the main campus. The final decision has been delayed as a tug-of-war continues between the Congress and the BJP on whether the campus should be located at Dharamsala or Dehra.
While the BJP wants that the Centre should ensure that the Central University has two campuses — the main at Dehra and the other at Dharamsala — the Congress is keen that there is one main campus at Dharamsala and engineering and other affiliated colleges at Dehra.
The issue was taken up by the BJP and the Congress with Irani when she had come to attend at the convocation of the university.
