Dozens of programs launch when you start Windows – many without your knowledge or assent. Some may be unneeded, consume resources, and slow your system. Instead of roaring to life, your system staggers to its feet, half alive.
With Startup Cop Pro you can find out what programs are launching and where they reside, then disable those you don't want to start at boot up. You can also delay programs to startup when you want them to. Startup Cop Pro puts you in complete control and puts a faster PC in your future.
In our new 10 year anniversary version, Startup Cop Pro 4, we focused on making Startup Cop Pro run faster and more reliably. In addition, we've made major changes to several areas of the program to make it a much more powerful tool.
What's New...
This new version adds many more startup locations to check rather than just the common ones. Startup Cop Pro now looks at and monitors these additional startup locations:
Explorer shell extensions
Internet Explorer Browser Helper Object
Winlogon registry key
Services
Scheduled Tasks
And more
We've added an option to allow you to hide Microsoft processes so that you don't accidentally disable them from starting with Windows.
We removed threat detection to enhance the program's speed. It was decided that while determining the threat level of a process was helpful, the time it took to look up this information hampered the usefulness of Startup Cop Pro. In addition, we came to the conclusion that determining system threats are best left to your favorite antimalware program.
We updated the user interface to make it easier to change your startup options. Rather than several clicks and windows to make changes to a startup program, you can now change most properties directly from the main window. While the previous Web-like interface was pretty, we found it hampered usability.
We've enhanced auto start with Vista. User Account Control (UAC) blocked the previous version of Startup Cop Pro from starting because of all the low-level work it does. This version works around UAC to make Startup Cop Pro function seamlessly with Vista.
If you like to decide when a process should be launched, we've added a new startup option that looks at CPU utilization and launches a program when utilization drops below a specified percentage for a specific amount of time. In other words, you can have programs launched when the CPU isn't busy.
Startup Cop Pro also now displays CPU consumption per process to help you decide which programs might be hogging your resources.
You can now re-order the columns by simply dragging and dropping them.
Startup Cop Pro now uses less memory and CPU resources than ever before.
And last but certainly not least, we've added an awesome feature that takes a snapshot of your startup items. This enables you to shutdown Startup Cop Pro and the next time you run it, it will compare your system's current startup state with the previous snapshot and notify you of changes.
