Good news! Besides the delightful Pumpkin Spice latte we look forward to every fall, Starbucks is going to throw something else into the mix to sweeten the deal.
The mega-corp has long since offered a free “Pick of the Week” song download with your orange mocha Frappaccino purchase, but thanks to Starbucks’ longstanding relationship with Apple’s iTunes, the caffeine-hit stores are now offering a range of free downloads in the e-realm.
Each week, Starbucks has a new download card that it gives to customers, and this week’s download is an “extended book sample” from Erin Morgenstern’s “The Night Circus.” We don’t know exactly how much of a sample you get, but we’re thinking it’s enough to get you interested and wanting to buy the book off of iTunes.
In addition to song downloads, we also saw Starbucks giving away free iPhone apps last month. Shazam was the first iOS app offered as part of Starbucks’ new program. The app normally costs $5.99, which is a much better deal than the previously-99-cent free song you’re getting with the “Pick of the Week” download card.
Also, according to All Things D, Starbucks may start offering free TV shows as well. If Starbucks really does begin to give away free TV shows, it’s just another incentive to go buy something at Starbucks, especially if the shows on offer are unavailable on streaming sites like Hulu. Furthermore, if Starbucks was able to offer an iTunes Exclusive track, TV show, or book, that would definitely motivate people to drop their local mom-and-pop coffee shop and head to Starbucks for their $5 latte instead.
