Jalandhar October 25:

Authorities at the Indian Embassy in Malaysia have rescued all the six Punjab youths who had been held captive by the owners of a cement factory in Kuala Lumpur.

The youths were rescued after Lok Bhalai Party chief Balwant Singh Ramoowalia apprised the Indian Embassy in Malaysia about their plight. They were identified as Jagrup Singh, Vikram Singh and Pawan singh from Amritsar district, Happy Lal and Kulbir Singh, both from Nawanshehar and Jagpreet Singh from Hoshiarpur district. All the six youths were present at a press conference addressed by Mr Ramoowalia here.

The youths not only narrated their gory tales of the time they had spent in captivity but also gave details of their fleecing at the hands of a local travel agent and his wife who lured them a job with an handsome salary of Rs 25, 000 per month besides other facilities like free accommodation and meals for two years. The agent charged Rs 1.50 lakh from each of them.

On arrival at the Kuala Lumpur airport, a sub agent named Zoban seized their passports and other documents besides US dollars and Indian currency they were carrying to use in the hour of need before they were dropped in a cement factory. The owners of the factory immediately took all of them to a room and made captive. ''We were served with little food and water to keep ourselves alive,'' said Vikramjit and Kulbir Singh.

They said that they were not allowed to go out of the room to tell anything to outsiders. Luckily, a Nepalese citizen helped them to make a call to their parents in Punjab. They said they asked their relatives to contact Mr Ramoowalia as he was the only person who could save them and rescue from the captivity of the cruel owner of the factory. Mr Ramoowalia said with the efforts of the officials of the Indian Embassy at Malaysia, the Police raided the site of the factory and rescued all the youths.

He further claimed that the police had arrested Zoban, the sub agent of the Punjab agent and also recovered passports of all the six youths which had been seized by him on the directions of the Punjab agent Vikram Kumar and his wife Nisha.
