hmm....dekho i think aah cities de naam chadigarh, pathankot were named way before present 3 generations were born. I dont think anyone has any control over that and neither do we have any control over which religion, which family we are born in. Vast majority of people follow the religion they are born in, i dont remember having a conversation with god about sending me in a particular religion before i was born. So some things are not by choice, and we ought to respect them. Aise layi if my friends are born in other religions and thats what they practice i better be respecting that or else i really dont understand the meaning of humanity.

Now if not having a Sikh marriage act is hurting any human rights of sikhs then it could be problem. And i dunno myself either if its a human right issue? je koi jaanda hove ta dass dena please.

but je same thing dujeya naal howe taaa fark bot jada paen lag pende.. dat thing is discrimnation te discrimination in any sense is always provoking..

like daman paji di gal yaad agi..rajasthan ch gujjar naare baji karde rail gadiya rokde bande marde but dat is agitation for justice.. je sikh karde taaa ainwe pagal ne fazool ch raula payi firde .. dat is wrng..

lot of mega cities de naam change hoge ne.. coz people of dose regions demanded ..

like:-

calcuta is now kolkatta
bombay is now mumbai
madras is now chennai


te hor bathere change hore.. te i think peacefull manner naal widout ine raula ya jab to naam badal hoge.... je punjab ch koi raula pawe naam change karan da i bet things wil not b peacefull and i doubt whether da names gna be ever changed or not

well i ve been reading abt ths everywhere a lot recently
may b its cz Pak govt. approved separate sikh marriage act..first country so far to do so..
so thts y ppl r talkin abt it ..
i ws reading sm debate by Simranjeet Singh mann abt separate marriage act in parliament in 1993...it ws quite intrstng ..n informative for an ignorant person like me...

If all religious denominations in India, the Hindus, the Parsis, the Christians, and the Muslims have separate and their respective marriage laws, why not the Sikhs?

i would just like to put in a few points here.
if there are separate ways of doing sumthing, then the name should be separate as well. its as simple as that.
one thing i can't understand is, for how long are we guys gonna stick with the policy of, "its ok, it doesn't really matter"
c'mon guys these things do matter and should matter. why are sikhs always stopped from having their own identity.
each act in the law has certain guidlines to it. if the work is not done as per those guidlines, then it is considered illegal. so how can sever fere n 4 lavaan come under the same act. as pps bayee ji have already detailed, there are a few differences between how a hindu marriage is done and how a sikh marriage is done.
i do accept that sikh people will still get married if it is kept as hindu marriage act or with any other name, but if it is just the matter of name, then why can't the govt. provide us with that other name? why is it that always sikhs have to adjust? how long and why this attitude towards us? are we inferior in any way?
today they are putting sikh marriage under hindu marriage act, and we are ready to compromise, what if tomorrow they start terming Langar as bhandaaraa, n just say what diff. does a name make. will we still sit back n say, "its ok, it doesn't really matter"
we need to have our own identity........................................

I think the topic is wrong as there is no demand for a Sikh marriage act...

The demand is for an anand marriage act!

Historically there was an anand marriage act (Anand Marriage Act, 1909) during the time of Britishers as they recognised the difference in marriage ceremonies of HIndus and SIkhs.

and i got this knowledge from a Bangladesh law site. Bangladesh and more recently Pakistan has Anand marriage act for Sikh weddings. Why can't India have one??

After independence govt. kept all other marriage acts of Britishers, but removed this act why??
