Sharp has shown off a new super-slim Blu-ray disc recorder during the CEATEC conference in Japan.
The new recorder is notable not only for its size, but also because it is compatible with BDXL discs. That means playing and recording on triple-layer 100GB media as well as standard 50GB discs.
Sharp managed to keep the size down by not including a hard drive arguing that 3 BDXL discs replace the typical 320GB hard drive included in such recorders. The device also has a power block external to the main casing again keeping the size down.
Best of all the price is meant to be very low because it classes as a basic recorder/player and therefore is quite cheap to make. Sharp hasn’t told us what it considers a cheap price, though, or when it will be released.
