The Bangladesh Cricket Board has asked Shakib Al Hasan to join the preliminary squad, which began its training camp on July 1. Shakib was on his way to Barbados to participate in the Caribbean Premier League and will return to Dhaka from London over the weekend.

"Shakib has been told to join the camp immediately," BCB's acting CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury told ESPNcricinfo. Chowdhury did not mention why the allrounder was asked to return or whether he will be released in time for the start of CPL, from July 11.

ESPNcricinfo, however, understands that a decision on this matter will be taken at a board meeting on July 7, as there is a lack of clarity regarding the No-Objection Certificate Shakib was supposed to have obtained from the BCB to participate in the West Indies league.

Shakib had set out for Barbados to play the entire tournament for the Barbados Tridents and was expected to join Bangladesh in mid-August, in time for the side's series against West Indies. Barbados' last game of the season is scheduled for August 10 while the CPL final is on August 16. Bangladesh begin their West Indies tour with the ODI series, which starts on August 20.

Shakib played all eight games for Barbados Tridents in the inaugural season of the CPL last year, ending up as the second highest wicket-taker in the competition behind Krishmar Santokie.

In its July board meeting, the BCB is also likely to decide on the issue of Shakib's alleged altercation with a spectator during a recent ODI against India in Mirpur. Shakib had attended a BCB hearing over an alleged row with a man who was apparently harassing his wife. While the allrounder said he did not hit the spectator, Shakib could be punished for leaving the team dressing room during an international game.
