BATHINDA: Two week after the Faridkot police busted a sex racket involving three cops who were allegedly blackmailing people using the services of some prostitutes, on Thursday the Bathinda police booked a station house officer (SHO) in a similar case where the SHO and some dubious character women were allegedly operating in league to mint money.

The two cases have emerged in the backdrop of the Moga sex scandal in which even senior police officials are facing similar charges.

A police investigation in a complaint of extortion led to the registration of a criminal case against the SHO, his one associate and two women of Kotfatta area of Bathinda where Harnek Singh was posted. In the complaint to SSP Bathinda, Narinder Singh, a resident of Kotfatta village, had accused SHO Harnek Singh and his accomplices of implicating him in a false rape case and demanding Rs 1 lakh to bail him out of the case.

The complainant had alleged that under a conspiracy hatched by the SHO, two women and another man, the latter incited him to reach the house of a woman, wife of an NRI, stating that she wanted to establish physical relation with a man.

The complainant further alleged that picking the bait when he reached, the woman, the SHO and the other man reached there and asked him to pay Rs 1 lakh or face rape cases.

After an investigation by a DSP rank officer, the police registered a extortion and corruption case against the SHO and three others. Another inquiry in the case has been given to an additional SP to probe the allegations made by the SHO.

In the Faridkot case, the police had arrested three cops on May 18 when they were allegedly receiving Rs 1 lakh from two doctors and a pharmacist. It was alleged that with the help of a prostitute, the cops allegedly trapped the doctors and the pharmacist and threatened to implicate them in a rape case to extract money.
