The Gurgaon police today booked a Saudi diplomat for rape, wrongful confinement and on other charges after two Nepalese women, who were allegedly being held hostage and physically and mentally assaulted, were rescued from his flat in an upscale society on Monday night.
The incident came to light when the women contacted a Nepal-based NGO, Maiti, which alerted the local police. A raid was conducted in the flat located in the posh condominium Island Caitriona and the women were rescued.
An FIR has been registered against the Saudi Arabian national (name withheld as victims yet to give statements) under Sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 342 (wrongful confinement) 376-2 (intercourse with woman in custody), 376-D (gang rape), 377 (sodomy), 506 (threatening to kill), 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code in the DLF-II police station.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (Crime) Rajesh Kumar said the victims were found in a pitiable condition in the flat. They told us that they were looking for work and got in touch with a Neplese woman, Kalpana. She sent them to an agent in Delhi who allegedly brought them to the house of the diplomat.
Kumar added the victims alleged that the diplomat took them to Saudi Arabia and forced them to do bonded labour as maids in a hotel for almost two months. He allegedly raped them and the situation remained same even when they returned to India. They claimed on a recent vacation to Nainital the diplomat even made his friends rape them. A medical examination of the duo has confirmed sexual assault, the police officer said.
The police are not only investigating the diplomatic status of the accused but have also started investigation to unearth the trafficking racket. The Gurgaon police had not got the victims' statement recorded under Section 164 of the CrPC owing to the language problem. A Gurgaon court asked the police to get a professional translator.
