Indian Tennis icon Sania Mirza reached the semi-final of the Women's Doubles event of the Wimbledon here. She and her doubles partner Elena Vesnina defeated Nuria Llagostera Vives and Arantxa Parra Santonja by 3-6 6-4 7-5 margin in the quarter final round of the important Tennis event of the year.
The Indo-Russian pair played exceptionally well in the match as they cruised from one set behind to eventually write the match to their name. This was the first time in Sania's career that she has reached the doubles semi final in Wimbledon.
The Spanish opponent of Sania and Vesnina started well as they defeated them in the first set by 3-6 margin. The fourth seeded Indo-Russian pair bounced back strongly and defeated their opponents in back to back sets to eventually register their names in the final. Earlier this year, Sania Mirza had also become the runners up in the French Open Women's Doubles event.
