Jalalabad May 7:

Punjab Deputy Chief Minister and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) chief Sukhbir Singh Badal said his party would strongly oppose the proposed ''unjustified'' hike of Rs 4 in diesel, Rs 5 in petrol and Rs 30 in LPG cylinder.

''SAD will strongly oppose the price hike as there is no justification for a hike, with crude crashing to below 100 dollar mark in the international market,'' he said while talking to media persons before laying the foundation stone of Rs 3.5 crore 66 KV grid substation and handing over cheques of Rs 10,000 each for construction of 14000 toilets in the area here.

Mr Badal said that the Central government was avoiding transparent fuel price fixation formula and for the past four months deferred the hike to garner votes in West Bengal, Kerala and Assam elections. He said that when crude had fallen to record a low, what justification Congress led UPA could give for a price hike. ''Why a consumer should pay for vote bank politics played by ruling Congress led UPA for 4 months?''
