Chandigarh October 29:
The Shiromani Akali Dal tonight demanded the sacking of Tamil Nadu Governor Surjit Singh Barnala for making "derogatory and politically motivated" statements against Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal.
In a statement, party secretary Daljit Singh Cheema said the SAD felt that from his recent actions, it appears that Barnala is lobbying for a particular political group and using the highest office of Governor to "re-establish his family" in Punjab politics.
Barnala, a former Punjab chief minister, had once been in the SAD but his wife has now formed a separate outfit called SAD (Longowal). Barnala's son Gaganjit was also expelled from SAD last year for alleged anti-party activities. Cheema said that Barnala has not only criticised the working of the state government, but rather made "personal, derogatory and politically motivated" statements against Parkash Singh Badal.
