Punjab News SAD, BJP to ask shop owners to down their shutters

A joint meeting of the core committees of ruling SAD and BJP tonight decided to protest the recent hike in petroleum products by asking shop owners to down their shutters till noon on Monday next.

The meeting, held under the Chairmanship of Chief Minister Prakash Singh Badal, decided that to protest against the ''unbearable'' hike in petroleum products. The meeting also appealed to the NDA leadership that keeping in view the magnitude of problem a nation-wide programme should be organised to expose the alleged nexus between the UPA and oil companies.

In addition, it was decided that a high level delegation of all the MPs and MLAs of SAD-BJP will meet the Governor of Punjab and will hand over a memorandum addressed to the President of India demanding immediate roll back of the petroleum prices, a SAD release said here. The meeting praised the decision of the Punjab government not to levy any VAT on the increased prices of these petroleum products.
