Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal blamed the Congress led UPA government at Centre for rampant corruption, inflation, illiteracy, poverty and unemployment, thereby shattering the dreams of Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev.

Speaking at the state level function on the martyrdom day of Shaheed Bhagat Singh here, Mr Badal said that even after 63 years of Independence, the government had not been able to provide the basic civic amenities to the common man ''what to talk of tall claims like high growth rate and national Gross Domestic Product.'' He said that freedom fighters had laid down their lives for the welfare of the countrymen but their aspirations had not yet been met because they dreamt of an Independent India free from the maladies of illiteracy, unemployment and starvation.

Referring to 2G scam, Common Wealth Games scandal and the Adarsh Housing scam, Mr Badal said these scams had exposed the real of the Congress led UPA governmens. Accusing the Centre for meting out a step motherly treatment to the state governments, Mr Badal said that the remote control was with Delhi and states had always to look upon them even for their justified demands and grants.

Speaking on the occasion former BJP president Rajnath accused the Congress governments for exploiting the poor peasantry for its narrow vested interests. He urged the Centre to declare agriculture as a national occupation and also dedicate a special TV channel for the farmers, poor and villages to enable them to contribute enormously in the economic development of the country.
