Roadways strike paralyses punjab

The strike called by employees of State Transport Punjab Roadways almost paralysed the State causing inconvenience to the commuters.
In Amritsar, Jalandhar and Ludhiana, Ropar and Nawanshehar no bus was allowed to move out from the main bus stands. A report from Amritsar said the private transporters who were seen moving with packed buses in all the routes from outside the main bus stand of holy city. Hundreds of commuters who were scheduled for long route journey from Amritsar to Delhi, Abohar, Fazilka and Haryana were seen perturbed due to random bus service of Private players.
Punjab Roadways Union leader Sukhdev Singh said that for the last twenty years there was no promotion for the employees working in the workshop of Punjab Roadways. He said that the main demand was for completion of fleet of 2407 buses in Punjab as presently very less number of buses were moving on the roads.He said that it was dire need to club the buses of PUNSUP in Punjab roadways. According to Dasondha Singh, AITUC district president, no bus moved from the Roadways depot here. He said as their talks with the Principal Secretary, Transport, failed to yield any result.
