Dull opening, poor weekend

After the scathingly acerbic reviews, the box office situation too isn’t heartening for Raavan. The opening of the movie was dull and the weekend collections were not so great. The hype and the brouhaha clearly hasn’t worked in the favour of this Abhishek Bachchan-Aishwarya Rai starrer.

Here are the box office figures of the first three days of ‘Raavan’: on Friday the collection was around Rs 5.75 crore; Saturday saw a collection of Rs 5.25 crore approx; Sunday was slightly better with Rs 6 crore approx. In total, Raavan has had Rs 17 crore weekend business only.

The movie’s overseas collection was disappointing too. According to trade reports, the film grossed around $1.45 million (INR 6.75 crore) over its first weekend in the overseas, including UAE and Australia. The North America region was expected to garner better results, but unfortunately the business was fair to middling.

As per reports, the first week business of ‘Raavan’ is likely to finish at around Rs 23-24 crore approx. The Tamil (Raavanan) and Telugu (Villian) versions did better than the Hindi (Raavan) version. Both the versions together grossed around Rs 12 crore over the weekend.

However, the BO darling continues to be Raajneeti. The movie collected Rs 78 crore approx during two weeks, and is expected to do a lifetime business of nearly Rs 90-100 crore. The movie is a ‘Blockbuster’.
