Question on 'Being Punjabi'

I've been hearing this a lot lately, but why do you some people call themselves 'Punjabi' rather than being called an 'Indian' or an 'Pakistani'?

From what I've heard so far, it's because of the Partition of 1947. :thinking

I tried relating to word Indian in my mind, it defines my citizenship and education background but nothing about my nature and mentality.

I tried relating to Punjabi, it seems to define more of me like my mother-tongue, my culture, my food habits (my desire for makki di roti, saro da saag, khoye diya pinniya etc etc), my dressing sense (meri pagg, tille aali khussa jutti) and list goes on.

Somewhere Being Punjabi is more related to me then Indian.
