The Snapdragon 820 is one of the most anticipated SoCs. Considering how the 810 was a bit of a let down, many are looking forward to the 820 to bring Qualcomm back to the top of their game. New reports suggest that the Snapdragon 820 might be around 50% more powerful than Samsung’s Exynos 7420 that is powering their 2015 flagships.

That is quite a big improvement over the Snapdragon 810 and in fact even compared to the Exynos 7420 which is currently found on the Galaxy S6/S6 edge, S6 edge+and Note5. Apparently the Snapdragon 820 is showing a 50% improvement in performance compared to the Exynos 7420 in single threading tests alone. However, Samsung too is looking to release their new Exynos M1 processor next year along with the Galaxy S7 and that will be the main competitor for the Snapdragon 820.
It is also reported that the Samsung Galaxy S7 will come with two variants – one powered by the Exynos M1 and another powered by the Snapdragon 820 SoC. Which one you get will depend on the region you are in. There are even talks of a third version being powered by the Exynos 7422 but the 820 and M1 versions seem more likely.
But its good news that the performance is so good considering that a lot of smartphones are expected to pack the Snapdragon 820. How well it stacks up against is something that remains to be seen in time though.
