Qingdao Haiwan Bridge

China had set a new record in the history of World recently. It is nothing but its construction of the Longest Bridge in the World. This is the longest bridge on the Earth, out of all the bridges built above water. It is 26.4 miles long which meant almost 42.6 kilometers. This bridge is named as Qingdao Haiwan Bridge as it connects the Qingdao city and Huangdao district.

By constructing Qingdao Haiwan Bridge, the distance between Qingdao city and Huangdao district gets reduced by 30 kilometers. Previously the record of the Longest Highway Bridge in the world lies with the Lake Pontchartrain Bridge in Louisiana of Italy. China’s new bridge is longer than it by three miles.

Qingdao Haiwan Bridge was built on a sea. It took 8.6 billion dollars expenditure for its construction. In Indian currency, it is equivalent to more than 32 thousand crore rupees. It took just four years for its construction. Its construction was completed in such a short period of time because of the continuous efforts of ten thousand workers. Workers constructed it all the day and night continuously from both sides. Six lane Highway road was laid vastly on this bridge. This bridge was built with 4,50,000 tons of iron. Bridge rests on 5,200 pillars. There is an estimation of traveling of atleast thirty thousand cars on this bridge every day from both sides. This bridge was built strongly in such a way that nothing would happen to it even if an earth quake of 8 point magnitude on Richter scale occurs.
