Punjabi singer wins international song writing competition beating rivals from 112 countries

CHANDIGARH: A Punjabi folk ballad 'Tere Bin Dil' by a former Patiala-based Thapar University student and software engineer, Dilpreet Bhatia, who was born in Ludhiana, has won the first place in the world music category of prestigious International Songwriting Competition (ISC). His song was selected out of 16,000 songs sent from 112 countries.
"We have just got the news that one of my songs 'Tere Bin Dil' has won International Songwriting Competition," a jubilant Dilpreet Bhatia told The Times of India over telephone from Mumbai where he is working with Morgan Stanley.


"This year was the most competitive of any year in terms of quantity and quality of entries," he said.
Dipreet Bhatia is in an august company of award winners like Kimbra Johnson, best known for her hit song ""Somebody that I used to know' with Australian Artist Gotye.
She won the grand price of the competition.
Panel of judges for the award included legendary english heavy metal vocalist and songwriter Ozzy Osborne; American singer and songwriter Kelly Clarkson; American folk-rock and country music star Lucinda Williams, multiple Grammy Award winning musician Alejandro Sanz and iconic artists such as Tori Amos, Tom Waits, Jeff Beck, McCoy Tyner and Jeremy Camp, among others.
In addition to the high-profile artists, the roster of judges also included five record label presidents as well as other industry leaders, offering songwriters the unprecedented opportunity to have their music heard by influential decision-makers.
Song 'Tere Bin Dil' was written, composed and arranged by him alone. He has also collaborated with multiple Grammy winning producer Ken Lewis for his song 'Main Pyaar Kar Challi Aan' and is currently working on the music score for an upcoming feature film in Punjabi.
The 30-year-old writer, singer and composer says, "I believe that music can change the world. It can bring people together and mend hearts."
He has his home studio where he produces and mixes his own music. He loves to experiment with all kind of sounds, from Punjabi, Hindi, Rock 'n' Roll to acoustic ballads to folk rock melodies.
Dilpreet also did some collaboration with Indian and international musicians including Grammy winning producer Ken Lewis, UK based producer Shammi Pithia, producer and arranger Leslie Lewis of "Colonial Cousins".
Recalling students' hangout in Patiala, he composed a song "22 Number Gate". He was in Patiala since 2003. He remained in Ludhiana between his birth in 1982 and 1990. He studied in Chandigarh between 1996 and 1999.
