Punjab vidhan sabha session begins today

The sixth session of the present Vidhan Sabha would begin on Friday with the address of Governor General SF Rodrigues. The session will conclude on March 10 with a vote on account.

The State Government has decided not to present a budget in the current session. It is expected that due to Lok Sabha elections, the session would witness hot debates on various issues including failure of the Government in presenting the annual budget. The Opposition Congress is also expected to raise the issue of mass scale foundation stones being laid by the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister.

Leader of Opposition has said that grants for all mega projects being launched were given by the Congress-led UPA Government at the Centre. The Opposition parties would also raise the demands of Government employees, mainly the issue of presenting the report of the Sixth Pay Commission. There will be no session on February 28, March and 1 and 2 due to holidays.

The session will resume on March 3 at 10 am and discussion will begin on the Governor's address. The Vidhan Sabha would take up non-official work on March 5 and discussion on Governor's address would continue on March 6. There will be no sitting of the House on March 7 and 8 and evening session will begin at 2 pm on March 9 to complete the constitutional work. On March 10 CAG reports of various departments would be presented and the session will be adjourned after passing the vote on account.
