Chandigarh September 17:

Booking Punjab roadways tickets will soon be just a click away. On a fast track, the Pepsu Road Transport Corporation (PRTC) has decided to go online with all its road transportation offices across the State making its operations available over the internet.

Logging on to technology, the PRTC under its modernisation plan will not only introduce the online booking system but will also make available the entire information regarding the timings of the PRTC buses along with the seats available in a specific bus, making a smooth run for the passengers.

First of its kind, the PRTC’s decision will also facilitate a smooth ride in the functioning of the department by helping the higher authorities in governance. “After successful implementation of a new service for the online reservation of Punjab roadways and PUNBUS (Punjab State Bus Stand Management Company Limited) air-conditioned (AC) buses, soon the PRTC will also go online,” Punjab Transport Minister Master Mohan Lal informed reporters.

Only recently, Punjab has become the first State in North to initiate the online reservation service for the AC buses of Punjab roadways and PUNBUS, by which the people residing anywhere in India can book their tickets online. “The response to the online reservation of AC buses was great and people are finding it an easier way to book seats. This move has relieved people from standing in queues for long hours,” added Mohan Lal.

To begin with, the depots of Patiala, Ludhiana, Chandigarh, Bathinda, Kapurthala, Faridkot, Barnana, Burlada and Sangrur will brought online all its operations. “The process is almost complete. The other depots will subsequently follow the suit,” informed a senior PRTC official. Elaborating, the official informed reporters, “With the implementation of this system, the higher-ups of the department will be able to keep a check over the day-to-day functioning of all the depots across State. It will also help in monitoring the daily-routine of the employees.”

The State’s largest public transport provider-PRTC-said to take this decision “at this point of time”, in the wake of the forthcoming Commonwealth Games (CWG) “for facilitating the tourists to book their tickets in advance. This could be another way to attract the tourists to the State,” added the official. Adding further, he informed that besides online tickets reservation and bus timings, PRTC also plans to bring its workshop online too, “but only after this system is implemented successfully”.

“For this, information regarding the place where the bus broke down till the time it reached the workshop would be put online, along with the complete information about its technical problem and time taken to mend it,” he added. “All the depots general managers have been directed to send detailed reports of the record of all employees, all complaints regarding PRTC, to put it online that will enable us to bring in efficiency in our functioning and solve the problems at the earliest,” added the official.
